Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies Adds Anti-Microbial Agent to All HandKey and HandPunch Platens
Advanced Antimicrobial Technology Reduces Spread of Micro Organisms from Laying Hands on Handreader Platens

CAMPBELL, CALIF. – July 17, 2007 – Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies today announced that it is using an advanced antimicrobial technology to reduce the spread of micro-organisms on its HandKey and HandPunch platens. All recently-ordered Schlage HandKey terminals for security applications and Ingersoll Rand HandPunch terminals for time and attendance will incorporate this technology. A special silver-based agent, using BioCote® technology, is embedded into the materials used to produce the platen of the biometric hand geometry units, providing a hygienic finish that resists bacterial degradation.
“ This high-tech material reduces a concern of some people when it comes to using hand geometry biometrics,” reports Jon Mooney, general manager of the biometrics unit for Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies. “Our hand readers are now specifically designed with bacteria reduction in mind.”
BioCote Limited is a market leader in the field of antimicrobial technology. The active agents in BioCote® are incorporated during the manufacturing process and remain active for the life of the biometric reader to protect it from degradation. BioCote® does not change the look or the feel of the product but it continually protects the platen surface.
