IR Recognition Systems’ HandPunch® Cuts Labor Costs for Aramark Sports & Entertainment
HandReaders Biometrically Track Employee Time
CAMPBELL, CALIF. – July 31, 2002 – IR Recognition Systems, the biometric component of Ingersoll-Rand’s (IR) Security & Safety Group’s Electronic Access Control Division (EACD), today announced that Aramark, a leading provider of a broad range of outsourced services to all types of facilities is using the IR Recognition Systems HandPunch 4000 Time & Attendance Terminal at multiple sites throughout the United States. The HandPunch 4000 uses the size and shape of an employee's hand to verify their identity.
“We chose hand geometry because it eliminates buddy punching, the hassle and expenses of lost or stolen ID cards, and the cost of producing replacements cards,” explains Pete Liberatori, Manager-Business Systems Services for Aramark Sports and Entertainment Information Technology. “Since the units eliminate buddy punching and ID card processing, we feel that the HandPunch is a good investment and pays for itself within two years.”
The HandPunch ensures payroll accuracy by simply requiring each employee to be present; no cards or other credentials are needed. HandPunch terminals are placed at the main employee entrances, kitchens, Human Resources, administrative offices and any other place with high visibility. The employee enters a four-digit code via the keypad on the HandPunch and then glides her hand onto the HandPunch. Her identity is verified in less than one second.
At each site, Aramark provides the choice of using cards with a Kronos clock or the HandPunch. Since Kronos is an OEM partner of IR Recognition Systems, centers can also use the Kronos HandPunch. Whatever the decision, the units interface with Kronos time and attendance/payroll software.
“Most employees prefer the HandPunch,” Liberatori reports. “They appreciate the fact that others can’t see their timecards and that their records won’t become lost or stolen. The HandPunch also makes reporting easier for them by simplifying labor or department transfers. For instance, employees often staff positions outside of their assigned home labor account at different rates of pay. The HP4000 is set up to accept the labor transfer at the time of the in punch.
“So far, we’ve installed 25 HandPunch terminals,” Liberatori adds. “They’re reliable, easy to work with and very cost effective. They interface easily, so it’s simple to set up a LAN (local area network) and they’re backed up by great support. Often, a person from one site will see another site is using the HandPunch and then requests it for themselves.”
