Kaba-Benzing Selects Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems HandPunch as Biometric Front-end for Time & Attendance

Partnership Improves Payroll Accuracy – Stops Buddy Punching – Eliminates Problems and Costs of Badges

CAMPBELL, CALIF. – November 22, 2002 – Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems, the biometric Time & Attendance component of Ingersoll Rand’s Security Technologies Electronic Control Systems, today announced that it has entered into a partnership in which Kaba-Benzing, a world leading provider of time and attendance systems, will offer the Company’s HandPunch biometric readers to its customers. Frost & Sullivan’s World Biometric Report 2002 recently reported that, in 2001, the Company’s hand geometry readers continued to be the dominant biometric technology for access control and time and attendance applications. More HandReaders were used for these applications than all fingerprint and face systems combined. Hand geometry readers positively identify users by the shape and size of their hands.

“A biometric reader ensures payroll accuracy by simply requiring each employee to be present,” reports Bill Spence, Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems director of marketing. “No cards or other credentials are needed. Losses due to “buddy punching” are eliminated. As a result, some companies report savings of up to five percent (5%) of total payroll cost. As one of the leading time and attendance systems providers, Kaba-Benzing will bring the benefits of biometrics to hundreds of companies.”

“The benefits of such biometric-based systems are many,” adds Michael Register, VP-Business Development and Marketing, Kaba-Benzing. “There are no badges to issue, replace when lost or stolen, or recover when an employee leaves or is terminated. After a biometric reader is installed, many companies are stunned to discover how much "buddy punching" was costing them. Using our software to impose scheduling restrictions, unauthorized Early In punches and Late Out punches are eliminated.”
