Summary
Privately-owned Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Florida saves substantially on labor costs with HandPunch® biometric hand readers from Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems.
Business Need
Quail Creek Country Club is one of the premier golf clubs in Naples, Florida, which claims the highest number of golf courses per capita in the United States. During peak season, Quail Creek employs up to 200 full and part-time workers in three buildings scattered across the grounds. The member-owned and-controlled club, which had been leasing a time and attendance system, analyzed costs and concluded that it would be more cost-effective to purchase a system.
Challenges
The club had several requirements. The new system had to stop the costly problem of buddy punching – a practice where workers punch in late for absent co-workers. The system also had to be able to calculate complex pay premiums and mesh seamlessly with Quail Creek’s already-installed payroll system.
Solution
The solution that Quail Creek selected fit all of its requirements. The most notable feature is the Ingersoll Rand Recognition Systems HandPunch 4000 biometric time clock. HandPunch hand readers are installed in all three buildings where employees work. Each time an employee clocks in or out, the HandPunch reads the shape and dimensions of the hand, checking it against a previously stored template. The process takes less than a second. The HandPunch eliminates the cost of creating and administering employee badges.
Results
“The HandPunch time clocks are surprisingly simple to use, and they have completely eliminated buddy punching,” said Nita Brown, Quail Creek’s manager of information systems. “The end result is a substantial savings in labor costs.”
About the company
Founded in 1981, Quail Creek Country Club has been owned and controlled by its members since 1984. With two Arthur Hill golf courses surrounded by trees, lagoons, waterfalls and single-family homes, Quail Creek is considered one of the premier golf clubs in Naples, Florida.
